Society launches latest research grant scheme with added focus on peace
The launch today of the latest cycle of our Research Workshop Grant Scheme expands its scope and cements its place in Wales’ research landscape.
Up to eighteen projects will receive funding, mostly of up to £1,000. A number of projects, however, can bid for up to £2,000 under a new ‘Pathways to Peace’ stream. This stream, which is sponsored by Wales’ peace academy, Academi Heddwch, will provide the additional funding to projects that include an international partner.
The grant scheme has been running since 2022 and, in that time, has supported over 35 projects, covering all disciplines within three broad areas: Wales Studies, Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences, and applications led by early career researchers.
“The introduction of the Pathways to Peace stream is an exciting development,” said Dr Barbara Ibinarriaga-Soltero, the LSW’s Programme Manager for Researcher Development.
“We have worked closely with Academi Heddwch in the past and the focus on projects that can develop a better understanding of peace or that address specific issues relating to peace feels particularly relevant at present.
“The grant scheme as a whole is pivotal to our efforts to deliver impact, foster collaboration and grow talent. It has become an important source of funding and allows us to make good on our commitment to make Wales a great place to be a researcher.”
The grant scheme is designed for researchers to run a series of workshops that bring people together at the early stage of planning and developing a collaborative research project. The aim is for these workshops to lead to the creation of a research network or bids for additional funding to develop the project further.
Full details of the application process and guidelines on submitting a bid are available here.
The deadline for applications is 31 October 2024.
