Professor Andrew Linklater

We are sorry to report the news about the recent death of Professor Andrew Linklater FLSW, who was one of the Founding Fellows of the Learned Society of Wales.

Professor Linklater was born in Aberdeen and, after time in Australia and at Keele University, became the 10th Woodrow Wilson Professor of International Politics at Aberystwyth University in 2000.

His 1998 book Transformation of Political Community, made the case for political communities governed by dialogue and consent rather than power and force. More recently, he wrote extensively on the idea of ‘civilization’, through the work of Norbert Elias, and its impact on international relations and state formation.

We offer our sympathy to Professor Linklater’s family, friends and colleagues.
