Welsh Crucible: Leadership Development Opportunity for Researchers

Applications are open from 4th January to 7th March 2016 for places on the Welsh Crucible Programme, an award-winning programme of personal, professional and leadership development for the future research leaders of Wales.

Now in its sixth year, the programme supports research-inspired innovation and cross-disciplinary collaboration in Wales.

Participants discover:

– how other early- to mid-career researchers in other disciplines are tackling similar issues;

– how they can transfer their knowledge to the public sphere to make an impact;

– the skills and attitudes that are likely to make their research more innovative;

– how thinking creatively can make a difference to their work and career.

Funded by a consortium of Welsh universities and the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales and supported by the Learned Society of Wales, the Welsh Crucible Programme brings together thirty aspiring researchers to explore how they can work together to tackle the current research challenges facing Wales.  Places are allocated following competitive selection and successful participants will attend three intense residential workshops across Wales in May, June and July 2016.

Applications need three to nine years’ postdoctoral research experience (or equivalent), working in any discipline.  They must be working in Wales, either at a higher education institution, or in research and development in business, industry or the public or third sector.  Our funding enables us to fully sponsor two successful participants who come from outside Higher Education.
