National Academy mobilises collective expertise in response to Wales’s Higher Education crisis
The Learned Society of Wales welcomes the formal start of the Welsh Government’s Higher Education Review as the Deputy Minister for Skills and Tertiary Education Cefin Campbell announces the membership of the independent panel.
The Learned Society of Wales has brought together a team of experts to inform its response to the Review. The group includes representation not only from across the Higher Education sector, but also local government, tech industry, and the NHS. It features members from across the whole of Wales and beyond, with diasporic Fellows of the Society bringing perspectives from international research systems. The group is chaired by LSW Council member and former Vice-Chancellor of Aberystwyth University, Professor Elizabeth Treasure.
Learned Society of Wales President Professor Dame Elan Closs Stephens said, “This group of independent experts is a unique resource for Wales. Their insight is vital as the Government reviews our national Higher Education and Research system, which is experiencing acute challenges. We are fortunate that Professor Treasure, who has such wide-ranging experience in the sector, is leading the Group.”
Deputy Minister for Skills and Tertiary Education Cefin Campbell launched the Higher Education Review in the Senedd in September. The Learned Society of Wales’s newly formed group stands ready to support Professor Patrick Prendergast and the review panel in the important task ahead.
