Our advocacy work: September 2026 update

We continue to advocate in the public sphere for the value of research, knowledge and innovation for the benefit of Wales. Key interventions include:

  • Formation of a task and finish group to provide input for the Welsh Government’s Review of Higher Education.
  • We responded to all eight Senedd committee prioritisation consultations, as well as the draft budget, highlighting how Welsh research and the Society’s work are relevant to their remit.
  • Formal and informal engagement with the First Minister, Deputy Minister for Skills and Tertiary Education, and the Cabinet Minister for Government Effectiveness and the Constitution.
  • We have written to all 96 MSs to promote awareness of the Society and our work.
  • Formal engagement with the Permanent Secretary, leading to an upcoming address to senior civil servants.
  • Making the case for Wales with UK stakeholders, especially as part of the Celtic Academies Alliance, with a meeting on Sustaining National Capabilities upcoming in Edinburgh.
