Dr. Jennifer Edwards

Dr. Jennifer Edwards, Lecturer in Physical Chemistry, Cardiff University, has won the Learned Society of Wales’ Dillwyn Medal 2020 (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Medicine), awarded in recognition of early career research excellence.

Dr. Edwards carries out research into catalysis and the development of materials for use in a range of applications, from water sanitisation to cleaning up large-scale industrial processes.

Her work has resulted in Dr. Edwards developing an international reputation in the field of catalysis and material science; she has presented at a number of conferences with the UK and overseas and has been awarded two international prizes for her research in heterogenous catalysis. She works closely with industry and her research has already resulted in her holding five patents.

On receiving the award, Dr. Edwards said:

“Catalysis plays a key role in improving health and well-being, and I am grateful to work out of the Cardiff Catalysis Institute, a world leading centre for catalysis research.

“We now focussing on applying our materials across disciplines, to see if the advances we have made in heterogeneous catalysis can be useful in medical and engineering fields.

“I am overjoyed to see my contributions recognised by the Learned Society of Wales, and would like to thank my colleagues, mentors, collaborators, and of course students whose hard work has made this possible.”
