Redefined roles reflect Society’s policy and equity focus
The importance we place on both equity and making a contribution to policy debates lies behind recent changes in job titles for two of our senior management team.
Helen Willson has become ‘Head of Equity and Engagement’ (formerly ‘ Strategic Engagement Manager’) while Fiona Dakin is now ‘Head of Public Policy’ (from ‘Policy and Public Affairs Manager’).
“News about job titles may not seem noteworthy,” said Olivia Harrison, Chief Executive, “but it actually signifies something important about who we are as an organisation.
“Working with our Fellows to involve them ever more closely in our activities remains a core part of Helen’s role.
“However, this change to her job title demonstrates our emphasis on ‘equity’ and says all you need to know about our aims for the Society.
“We have an active approach to embedding equity in our organisation and this is evident in the work we have begun and our commitment for the future.
“It means we are strongly committed to our continued ambition for a Fellowship that represents the diversity of Wales. Working in partnership with our Fellows and the communities to which we belong can help achieve that.”
The change to Fiona’s job title makes explicit our intention to use our position, and the expertise of our Fellows, to increase our role in developing and debating policy, whether within a Welsh context or beyond.
This is clear in the recent series of successful innovation roundtables, which we are expanding this year to include more disciplines and policy areas.
