The Universities

Universities are central to the development of the modern world.  Expectations of higher education from individuals, businesses and governments increase and sometimes conflict. In Wales, universities feature strongly as agents able and willing to implement economic and social policies proposed by the Assembly and Government.

Academics, who are the creators and guardians of the life of the University, have their own requirements for teaching, scholarship and research.

The global question arises: What are Universities for?

The Society will organise events that explore the intellectual, social, economic and cultural nature and role of Universities.

The Society welcomes enquiries from individuals and organisations proposing contributions, such as lectures, symposia and other events and activities, to the Universities Theme.
