Scientists of Wales: Book Series and Events
The Society supports a new book series, to be published by the University of Wales Press, that aims to chart the lives, times and works of Welsh scientists, and of people active in science in Wales.
The book series to be published by the University of Wales Press will chart the lives, times and works of Welsh scientists, and of people active in science in Wales.
The terms “scientists” and “science” are used in a broad sense to cover all sorts of people and subjects that belong in the histories of science, technology and engineering.
The series will publish books in paperback and will be modestly priced
The first titles in the series will consider Robert Recorde, William Robert Grove, Edward Lhuyd, E J Williams, Alfred Russel Wallace, and Brunel in Wales.
The book on Robert Recorde will be published this year with the aim to publish Iwan Morus’s William Robert Grove in January 2017, followed by Rowland Wynne’s E. J. Williams in July 2017, and then Brynley Roberts’s Edward Lhywd in the second half of 2017.
The Series Editors are : Gareth Wyn Roberts (Bangor), Iwan Morus (Aberystwyth), John V Tucker (Swansea).
New proposals are evaluated by the editors, referees and the Board of the University of Wales Press.
EVENTS
The Society also organises and sponsors a number of lectures on the histories of science, technology, engineering and medicine, often in partnership with universities and societies. These included sponsored historical lectures by many experts including Sir John Meurig Thomas, Jonathan Ayling, Iwan Morus and Professor Brian Randell.
