Join us in shaping the future of Wales Studies
LSW shapes Wales Studies’ future through new network.
To champion Wales in a global context, we must first know it. Wales Studies encompasses all fields of enquiry that explore the cultural, social, and physical features of Wales. It is research about Wales, of Wales, for Wales.
Six months after our Wales Studies event in Aberystwyth, we’ve made rapid progress in line with our commitment to championing this burgeoning area of research. Particular milestones include events at the 2025 Eisteddfod in Wrexham, our panel at the 2025 Centre for Advanced Welsh and Celtic Studies Conference, a Wales Studies stream within our Research Workshop Grant Scheme, and the establishment of our Wales Studies Network. The Network is an exciting opportunity for researchers and experts to connect, collaborate, and promote Wales Studies.
The network will firstly focus on building our community by reaching professionals working in Wales Studies. We have established a LinkedIn group to support networking and collaboration. Please sign up, then invite peers and colleagues working in Wales Studies to join the group. Those not on LinkedIn can stay updated through our dedicated Wales Studies newsletter (sign up here).
Finally, to further our push for progress we are seeking expressions of interest to form the Network’s first leadership group. The leadership group will consist of a chair or co-chairs, plus working group leads with responsibility for the following areas:
- International
- Education
- Public Engagement and Communication Campaigns
- Policy and Public Affairs Engagement
- Research (early-career researchers; research landscape; case studies)
- Fundraising
Terms of reference can be found here. Please fill out this short form to express interest in becoming the chair [deadline: Friday 10th October] and/ or this short form for the working group leader roles [deadline: Friday 31st October]. Elections will then be held in October 2025: first for the chair, then the chair will oversee the election of working group leaders. Once the leadership group is formed, members of the network will then have the opportunity to join working groups to shape and drive forward these areas of work.
In the meantime, we invite everyone to connect on LinkedIn and contribute to this exciting collaborative space for Wales Studies. Please consult the rules of the group before posting!
