The Inaugural President

Sir John Cadogan CBE DSc FRSE FRSC FLSW FRS (born 1930) is one of the most distinguished scientists in Wales, whose speciality is in organic chemistry. He was educated at Swansea Grammar School and King’s College London. He has received numerous accolades for his work during the course of his career, which has spanned the following posts: Director General of the Research Councils; Purdie Professor of Chemistry at the University of St Andrews; Forbes Professor of Organic Chemistry at the University of Edinburgh; Chief Scientist at the BP Research Centre; Director of Research for BP; Visiting Professor of Chemistry at Imperial College, London; and Professorial Fellow at Swansea University. 

 

He is a Founding Fellow of the Learned Society of Wales and in February 2010 was elected its inaugural President and Chair of Council. Sir John’s tenure as President concluded on 14 May 2014.
