Professor Sara Elin Roberts
Honorary Professor at the School of Welsh, Bangor University
Professor Roberts is a leading scholar of medieval Welsh law and literature. Her research focuses on the legal culture of medieval Wales, particularly Cyfraith Hywel, and she is the author of several influential monographs on Cyfraith Hywel, including The Growth of Law in Medieval Wales (2022), which was awarded the Hywel Dda Prize. She also has extensive expertise in Middle Welsh poetry, and was one of the editors of the new edition of the poetry of Dafydd ap Gwilym in 2006. In addition to her monographs, she has published widely in leading journals and edited major collaborative volumes in the field of Celtic and legal history. She is Editor of the Transactions of the Honourable Society of the Cymmrodorion and serves on the editorial board of the Transactions of the Royal Historical Society, and is the editor of the Celtic section of The Year’s Work in Modern Language Studies. She has held academic positions at Aberystwyth University, the University of Chester, Bangor University, and Swansea University, but has also worked outside of academic departments as an independent scholar.
