Helen Fulton studied at the University of Sydney and the University of Oxford where she specialized in medieval English literature and Celtic Studies. She held a University of Wales postdoctoral fellowship at the Centre for Advanced Welsh and Celtic Studies in Aberystwyth and a Leverhulme postdoctoral fellowship.

Following some years as lecturer and Associate Professor at the University of Sydney, Helen was appointed Professor of English at Swansea University in 2005. She was Professor of Medieval Literature at the University of York from 2010 to 2015, and is currently Professor and Chair of Medieval Literature at the University of Bristol. She has had appointments as Visiting Research Fellow at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge (2003-4), St John’s College, Oxford (2013-14), and Magdalen College, Oxford (2020). Helen has been awarded major research grants from the Australian Research Council, the Arts and Humanities Research Council, and the Leverhulme Trust, holding a Leverhulme Major Research Fellowship from 2020 to 2022.
