Professor Shah has worked in the NHS for 50 years. He is visiting Professor at the University of South Wales, a GP education lead and a past non-executive member of Rhondda Cynon Taf local health board. He has been secretary of the British Association of Physicians of Indian Origin in Wales, was a member of the First Minister’s BAME Covid-19 Advisory Group, and has been a trustee of the Hindu community centre, Race Council Cymru, the Vale for Africa charity and the Calon Hearts charity. Professor Shah received a British Empire Medal (BEM) in the Queen’s Birthday Honours in 2018 and a lifetime service award for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion at the 2024 International Girmit Conference in Cardiff.
