Professor Dame Ann Dowling is Deputy Vice-Chancellor at Cambridge University, where she gained her PhD supervised by Professor John Ffowcs-Williams FLSW. She is a Fellow of the Royal Society, Royal Academy of Engineering (President 2014-19), a Foreign Member of the US and Chinese National Academies of Engineering, and of the French Academy of Sciences. In 2007 she was awarded a DBE for services to Science and appointed an ‘Order of Merit’ by Queen Elizabeth II in 2015.
Her world-renowned research enables power and transport, minimising environmental damage and noise from cars, aircraft and wind turbines. A role model for women in engineering, Dame Ann has been regularly cited in the Sunday Times top 500 most influential people in the UK.
