Professor Åke Fagereng
FLSW
Professor in Structural Geology, Cardiff University
Professor Fagereng has made significant contributions to understanding rock deformation, particularly the processes and conditions that prevail at the Earth’s plate boundaries. He is most known for constraining geological controls on whether faults creep aseismically or produce big earthquakes. He carries out his research through interdisciplinary investigations that use field geology, electron microscopy, and geochemical and geophysical methods. He applies this knowledge to an understanding of natural hazards.
