Professor Adam Hedgecoe

Elected: 2026

Area(s): Humanities, Arts & Social Sciences

Specialist Subject(s): Sociology of science and medicine

Professor & WISERD Director, Cardiff University

Professor Hedgecoe’s research explores the social shaping of modern biomedicine. For thirty years, he has examined the role that clinical genetics plays in medical decision making. This includes thinking about how genetic tests shape the boundaries of disease, the challenges of personalised medicine, and the complexities raised by modern genomic sequencing techniques. Related to this is his work on the regulation of biomedical research, and the way research ethics committees shape perceptions of what is or is not ethical.
