The Tuition Fee Dilemma: How should Wales support its students at university?

A comment piece by Professor Peter Halligan, Chief Executive of the Society was featured in the Western Mail on Thursday 18 February.

“The recent decision by the Welsh Government to reduce the proposed cuts to the Hefcw budget from 32% to 8% is clearly to be welcomed, both in its own right, but also as an opportunity to highlight the critical value that higher education plays for Wales in these difficult times of austerity.

There are few sectors of the Welsh economy with the capacity and international connections to help drive forward economic and social wellbeing for the benefit of the people of Wales.
