  • Curiosity-driven ‘Blue Sky’ Research: a threatened vital activity? A significant report by Sir John Cadogan. The paper questions superficial assumptions about value of funding blue skies research; analyses and celebrates the impact it has on our economy and quality of life; and criticises the heavy contemporary emphasis on well-funded directed research programmes and points out some negative side-effects.   • LSW Gender Balance Working Group: Report and Recommendations – a report on the gender balance of the Fellowship, and recommendations that the Society is implenting to address the under-represenation of women. (March 2014)
  • ‘Wales,the United Kingdom and Europe’ – a joint report with the British Academy which reviews the complex relations between Wales and the United Kingdom as a whole, and within Europe. (October 2013)
  • Recognising the Quality of Research at Universities in Wales, a paper by Professor Robin Williams CBE FInstP FLSW FRS (February 2013)
  • On 18 October 2011 the Society published ‘The Funding Gap’, its correspondence with the Minister for Education and Skills, Leighton Andrews AM, about the funding of our Universities. Click here for further information and here to download a copy.

President’s Annual Address

On 22 May 2013, Sir John Cadogan delivered his fourth Presidential Address at the Annual General Meeting of the Learned Society of Wales. 

On 23 May 2012, Sir John Cadogan delivered his third Presidential Address at the Annual General Meeting of the Learned Society of Wales. 

On 25 May 2011, Sir John Cadogan delivered his second Presidential Address at the Annual General Meeting of the Learned Society of Wales.

On 25 May 2010, Sir John Cadogan delivered his  Inaugural President’s Address.

The Society’s Annual Report and Accounts for the period 1 August 2013 to 31 July 2014 were approved by the Council on 14 January 2015. 

The Society’s Annual Report and Accounts for the period 1 August 2012 to 31 July 2013 were approved by the Council on 15 January 2014. 

The Society’s Annual Report and Accounts for the period 1 August 2011 to 31 July 2012 were approved by the Council on 16 January 2013. 

The Society’s Report and Accounts for the period 18 May 2010 (the date of Incorporation) to 31 July 2011 were approved by the Council on 18 January 2012. A copy may be found here.
