Why do leading politicians refer to history so often? And what kind of history do they appeal to? This lecture will show that politicians mould history for present purposes and weave mythologies to legitimise their views today. The lecture will explore these mythologies in an attempt to show how they affect our political culture and the public discourse of history. It shows how politicians have produced mythologies for a devolved Wales in a bid to create a version of the past that fits the new way of governing the country – a new parliament, a new history.
