Professor Angela John was Professor of History at the University of Greenwich for many years before taking early retirement in order to return to Wales and write full-time. She has published thirteen books, encompassing studies of 19c and 20c British women’s/gender history and a number of biographies, including one of Lady Rhondda. Her most recent book is Behind the Scenes: The Dramatic Lives of Philip Burton (Parthian, 2025). For some years she sat on the Lord Chancellor’s Advisory Council on National Records and Archives. She is a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society and President of Llafur, the Welsh People’s History Society, also part of Monumental Welsh Women which has been organising five outdoor statues of women across Wales.
