Dr Barbara Ibinarriaga Soltero
As the Researcher Development Programme Lead at the Learned Society of Wales, I am responsible for designing and delivering a dynamic and impactful programme that supports the professional growth of Early Career Researchers (ECRs) across Wales. A key aspect of my role involves working with the LSW Advisory Group for Researcher Development to build our national, interdisciplinary network of ECRs, through which we offer a wide range of training workshops, events, and networking opportunities aimed at enhancing researchers’ skills and supporting their career progression.
With the support of our Programme Officer, we also work to establish strategic partnerships with networks and organisations within Wales, the UK, and internationally. These collaborations enable us to provide meaningful leadership opportunities for both early- and mid-career researchers, helping to build capacity within the research community and foster a culture of cross-sector engagement.
In addition, we regularly engage with colleagues in the broader Researcher Development community to share insights and best practices. These discussions inform our efforts to create more inclusive, supportive, and healthier research environments, ensuring that our initiatives remain relevant and responsive to the needs of researchers at various stages of their careers.
Another key responsibility is managing the Society’s Research Workshop Grant Scheme. This initiative is designed to promote intellectual and creative exchange by supporting collaborative workshops that bring together researchers from different disciplines, institutions, and sectors, including academia, the public, private, and third sectors.
At the heart of our programme is the expertise and experience of the Society’s Fellows. Their involvement helps to enrich our activities and enhances researchers’ ability to build rewarding and impactful careers both within academia and beyond.
Barbara joined the Society in June 2021.
As a social scientist who graduated from Cardiff University, Barbara continues developing her research profile through consultancy for research projects and supporting non-profit organisations to obtain funding to work within Mexican indigenous communities.
Barbara is passionate about teaching and loves swimming and cycling.
