The Society has supported a joint statement issued by the Institute of Civil Engineers and the Institution of Mechanical Engineers on the proposed Swansea Tidal Lagoon pathfinder scheme.

The Hendry Review has concluded its support for the proposed Swansea Bay Tidal Lagoon. The Institution of Civil Engineers Wales Cymru and the Institution of Mechanical Engineers wish to offer support to the Welsh Government and encourage the UK Government to accept the recommendations and proceed with the scheme. Both Institutions would encourage the First Minister and AMs to drive home the need for this project to their Westminster colleagues identifying not only the benefits to Wales, but the innovation and manufacturing potential, development of much needed highly skilled jobs and health and wellbeing of our communities.
