Society Contributes to the External Affairs and Additional Legislation Committee’s first report on the implications of Wales leaving the European

The report by the National Assembly for Wales’s External Affairs and Additional Legislation Committee published last week is the first published by the assembly committee tasked with safeguarding Welsh interests in the Brexit process.

The conclusions and recommendations were based on a range of seminars and evidence sessions held with leading experts including the President of the Learned Society of Wales, Sir Emyr Jones Parry, whose contribution on the  Welsh Government’s response to the referendum was highlighted throughout several parts of the report.

In particular, the committee endorsed the President’s suggestion that the Welsh Government continue to press the UK Government for full involvement in shaping its negotiating position and direct participation in those negotiations which involve devolved powers, or issues that affect devolved powers.
