Learned Society Of Wales President, Sir John Cadogan, Awarded Royal Medal Of The Royal Society Of Edinburgh

Sir John Cadogan CBE FRS FRSE, Inaugural President of the Learned Society of Wales, has been awarded the Royal Medal of the Royal Society of Edinburgh for his outstanding contribution to Organic Chemistry through his research, discovery and invention, and the impact for wider academia of his work with the UK Research Councils and industry.

“It is a great, and unexpected, honour to be awarded one of the Royal Medals of the Royal Society of Edinburgh” said Sir John.

The Royal Medals of the Royal Society of Edinburgh were instituted by Her Majesty The Queen in the year 2000.  They are awarded annually, to individuals who have achieved distinction and are of international repute in any of the following categories: Life Sciences; Physical and Engineering Sciences; Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences; Business and Commerce.

Dyfarnwyd Medal Frenhinol Cymdeithas Frenhinol Caeredin i Lywydd Cyntaf Cymdeithas Ddysgedig Cymru, Syr John Cadogan CBE FRS FRSE am ei gyfraniad eithriadol i Gemeg Organig drwy ei ymchwil, darganfyddiadau a dyfeisiadau, ac effaith ehangach ei waith gyda Chynghorau Ymchwil y DU a Diwydiant ar academia.

Sefydlwyd Medalau Brenhinol Cymdeithas Frenhinol Caeredin gan ei Mawrhydi’r Frenhines yn y flwyddyn 2000. Cânt eu dyfarnu bob blwyddyn i unigolion sydd wedi gwneud cyflawniad nodedig ac y mae iddynt enw da rhyngwladol yn un o’r categorïau canlynol: Gwyddorau Bywyd; Gwyddorau Ffisegol a Pheirianyddol; y Celfyddydau, y Dyniaethau a’r Gwyddorau Cymdeithasol; Busnes a Masnach.
