November 2025: UK National Commission on the Regulation of AI in Healthcare

Professor Chris Hopkins FLSW was invited to contribute to the UK National Commission on the Regulation of AI in Healthcare.

The Commission was established by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency and is led by Professor Alastair Denniston and Professor Henrietta Hughes. It brings together leading voices from healthcare, technology, regulation, and academia to help shape a trusted, evidence-based route for adopting the use of AI across the NHS.

Professor Hopkin is Head of the TriTech Institute, Clinical Director of ATiC at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David, and Deputy Chair of the Health Technology Wales appraisal panel. He brings a strong focus on how robust evidence can underpin the safe, effective and equitable introduction of AI into clinical practice.


Professor Hopkins’ wide-ranging work includes assessing the quality and accuracy of diagnostic tests and procedures, and the evaluation of medical technologies, services and processes. He is a Chartered Scientist and a Chartered Engineer, and holds fellowships from the Academy for Healthcare Science and Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine. Chris is a member of the expert advisory committee within the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency and a member of the Health Technology Wales appraisal panel. He was awarded the Excellence in Healthcare Science Research and Innovation Award at the NHS England Chief Scientific Officer’s Excellence in Healthcare Science Awards 2022.
