The Society was actively involved in efforts to overturn the proposed cut to the HEFCW budget.

The President wrote to the First Minister, Minister for Economy, Science and Transport and the Minister for Education (see letter here) and the Society was a co-signatory of the letters sent by the Campaign for Science and Engineering (CaSE).

Comments from Professor Peter Halligan, the Chief Executive of the Society were also featured in the Western Mail, and Society representatives met with representatives of government, opposition parties, and the universities.
