Championing the Chapels – lecture by Huw Edwards

FREE PUBLIC LECTURE ¦ DARLITH CYHOEDDUS AM DDIM

7.00pm Friday 6 December 2013, Faraday Lecture Theatre, Swansea University

7.00pm Dydd Gwener 6 Rhagfyr, Darlithfa Faraday, Prifysgol Abertawe

Reception from 6.30pm onwards /  Derbyniad o 6.30pm ymlaen

Why would chapels need champions? Because they have very few friends in high places. Our cultural and heritage chiefs appear to be castle, cathedral and country house obsessives. This needs to change.

In this free public lecture, Huw Edwards will argue that the importance of chapels in our national story needs to be:

  • properly recognised
  • embraced with enthusiasm
  • promoted as a positive story rather than a negative one.

*******

Pam fyddai angen hyrwyddwyr ar gapeli? Am mai ychydig iawn o gyfeillion sydd ganddynt mewn mannau dyrchafedig. Mae’n ymddangos fod ein penaethiaid diwylliannol a threftadaeth yn obsesiynol am gestyll, eglwysi cadeiriol a thai gwledig. Mae angen i hyn newid.

Yn y ddarlith gyhoeddus hon â mynediad am ddim, bydd Huw Edwards yn dadlau fod angen i bwysigrwydd capeli yn ein stori genedlaethol gael

  • ei gydnabod yn llawn
  • ei gofleidio’n frwd
  • ei hyrwyddo fel stori gadarnhaol yn hytrach nag un negyddol.
