Foundation for Science and Technology debate

A joint debate with The Foundation for Science and Technology was held at Cardiff University on 3rd July, 2013. The debate addressed the topic of how university-business collaboration can be used to maximise short-term economic growth and reduce unemployment levels in Wales.

The Foundation’s purpose is to provide a neutral platform for debate of policy issues that have a science, engineering or technology element.

The event was Chaired by The Earl of Selborne GBE FRS, Chairman of the Foundation.

Participating speakers included:

  • Professor Colin Riordan FLSW, President and Vice-Chancellor, Cardiff University
  • Sir Leszek Borysiewicz FRS FRCP FMedSci FLSW, Vice-Chancellor, University of Cambridge
  • Sir Terry Matthews OBE FREng, Chairman, Wesley Clover
  • Edwina Hart MBE CStJ AM, Welsh Government Minister for Economy, Science and Transport.

Also present were  Sir John Cadogan, President of the Learned Society; Dr Lynn Williams, Chief Executive of the Learned Society;and Dr Dougal Goodman, Chief Executive of The Foundation for Science & Technology.
