Call for Proposals – Closing date for submissions 29th April 2024

The Learned Society of Wales Early Career Researchers Network is pleased to announce the Call for Proposals for our 2024 Annual Colloquium.

The theme for the upcoming colloquium is ‘A Connected Wales’ and builds on the success of our 2023 Colloquium. This theme has been chosen to reflect our ambition to develop a cohesive and interdisciplinary research network in Wales and to connect Welsh research with policy and practice. Demonstrating how research impacts the wider world is essential for developing successful funding applications and for progressing research careers.

This one-day event, held at Bangor University, invites researchers to reflect on the potential of their research to impact the Welsh policy landscape by examining how their research connects to at least one of the seven core principles of the Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act 2015. This Act is unique to the Welsh context and underpins how public bodies in Wales work to improve the well-being of people living in Wales for both current and future generations. The principles are:

  • A prosperous Wales
  • A resilient Wales
  • A healthier Wales
  • A more equal Wales
  • A Wales of cohesive communities
  • A Wales of vibrant culture and thriving Welsh language
  • A globally responsible Wales

We are inviting proposals for Flash-Talks and research posters. Researchers working within and outside of academia are encouraged to apply.

The colloquium is designed to support researchers in developing their careers. In addition to the flash-talks, there will be opportunities for attendees to expand their research networks, meet the Society Fellows, and attend sessions on developing successful funding applications run by senior-level academics and funding bodies.

The programme is being co-developed with our excellent ECR Conference Committee, which includes Ambassadors from all Welsh Universities working across a range of different disciplines. The LSW Advisory Group for Researcher Development has also been supporting the organisation of this event.

Travel and Accommodation Bursaries

Funds are available to support ECRs travelling to the event. A limited number of accommodation places are also available at Bangor University, this will be granted on a first-come-first-serve basis, so please let us know as soon as possible if you require overnight accommodation.

Depending on levels of interest we may also run a coach service from south Wales to Bangor on the evening of the 17th with the return scheduled for the evening of the 18th. Please let us know when you submit your proposal if you would use this service.

The deadline to submit your abstracts is 29th April 2024.

We look forward to receiving your proposal and welcoming you to the conference!
