Early Career Research Medals

The Dillwyn Medals, celebrate the contribution of early career researchers working in, or with a connection to Wales.

These awards meet the Society’s strategic objective of publically celebrating Welsh scholarship in the sciences, arts and humanities. “Early career researcher” is defined as “a researcher with a minimum of two years’ work experience and no more than ten years work experience“.

The three annual awards are unique in recognising outstanding contributions that cover a wide disciplinary range of scholarship, including:

  • Sciences, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Medicine
  • Humanities and Creative Arts, and
  • Social sciences, education and business

There are no age restrictions, and those who have taken a career break are also eligible.

Recipients will be awarded a specially struck commemorative medal and will receive the Award in person at a Society event. Each medal will be accompanied by a monetary prize and a certificate.

Recipients are required to provide a relevant public lecture and/or publish a short article that raises the profile of early career research in Wales and the UK.

The call for nominations is open to all, but nominees cannot nominate themselves.

The awards are supported by Airbus Corporate Technical Office, as part of their strong ongoing commitment to Wales.
