Researcher Development Team

Cathy Stroemer, Programme Manager, Researcher Development

Cathy joined the society in April 2022 to lead on the HEFCW-funded Researcher Development programme. Over the next few years she’ll be developing a series of events targeting new researchers in Wales, giving them opportunities to connect with and learn from our Fellows.

Prior to joining the Learned Society, Cathy worked at the British Council delivering the Newton Fund Impact Scheme in partnership with UKRI, as well as supporting capacity strengthening programmes with South Africa and Malaysia.

Since moving to Cardiff in 2014, Cathy has been attending evening classes with Welsh for Adults / Dysgu Cymraeg and recently completed the first year of the Advanced Level.

Dr Barbara Ibinarriaga Soltero, Programme Officer, Researcher Development

Barbara looks after the Society’s Early Career Researchers Network. Besides being the main point of contact for the Network members, Barbara produces the monthly ECR Bulletin and leads the organisation of seminars, workshops and other activities. Barbara works closely with Cathy Stroemer to deliver the Researcher Development Programme, one of the Society’s core activities to promote collaborations between researchers across Wales. This programme is funded by the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales (HEFCW).

Barbara joined the Society in June 2021. As a social scientist, who graduated from Cardiff University, Barbara continues developing her research profile through consultancy for research projects and supporting non-profit organisations to obtain funding to work within Mexican indigenous communities.
