Lampeter Lecture | Darlith Llambed

Professor Jane Burton FLSW, Professor of Medieval History at the University of Wales Trinity St David is giving the Learned Society of Wales 2019 lecture at Lampeter Campus.

Her lecture is titled ‘The White Monks of Wales and Cistercian Studies Today’.

This lecture will discuss recent historiographal trends in scholarship on the Cistercian Order, which was arguably the most important monastic movement to emerge from the era of church reform of the eleventh and twelfth centuries. It considers the importance of regional studies, focussing on the Order in Wales, and draws attention to the ‘Monastic Wales’ Project and ‘The Sacred Landscapes of Medieval Monasteries: An Inter-disciplinary Study of Meaning Embedded in Space and Production’, funded by the AHRC.

The lecture will take place at the Founders’ Library, Lampeter Campus, at 5:30pm on Monday 17 June.

Bydd y ddarlith yn trafod tueddiadau hanesyddiaethol diweddar mewn ysgolheictod ar yr Urdd Sistersiaidd, sef o bosibl y mudiad mynachaidd pwysicaf i ymddangos yn dilyn oes y diwygio eglwysig yn yr unfed ganrif ar ddeg a’r ddeuddegfed ganrif. Mae’n ystyried pwysigrwydd astudiaethau rhanbarthol, gan ganolbwyntio ar yr Urdd yng Nghymru, gan dynnu sylw at Brosiect ‘Cymru Fynachaidd’ a ‘The Sacred Landscapes of Medieval Monasteries: An Inter-disciplinary Study of Meaning Embedded in Space and Production’, a gyllidir gan yr AHRC.
