Be inspired to nominate: Call for medal nominations

One of the purposes of the Learned Society is to recognise, celebrate and promote scholarly excellence.

Individual medals, competitively won on the basis of merit, have provided a long and distinguished history of recognition in academia.

We are developing our own portfolio of medals, which not only recognise the academic excellence of today, but also recover and promote a long legacy of Welsh achievement.

But for us to award the medals, we need your help to identify those deserving of recognition; the field is rich, we just need your nominations for consideration by the award committees.

  • The three Dillwyn Medals recognise the contribution of early career researchers working in the Arts and Humanities, Social Sciences, and STEMM with a connection to Wales
  • The Frances Hoggan Medal recognises the contribution of outstanding female researchers in STEMM, with a connection to Wales.
  • The Hugh Owen Medal recognises significant achievement in educational research, including innovations and education policy in Wales
  • The Menelaus Medal is awarded for excellence in any field of engineering and technology to a researcher or industrial practitioner with a connection to Wales

Anybody can make a nomination, so please help us to celebrate Welsh research excellence.
